Gay marriage straight marriage, who really gives a shit?

I've got some gay friends and I've got some straight friends and nether are better friends than the other and isn't that what really counts? Anyway we have this great debate going on in this country about whether or not the government should decide whether or not gay marriage should be sanctioned or a vote of the people should be the deciding factor…my take on the problem…
I don't think ether should be sanctioned by the government. Marriage isn't a government thing, marriage is a religious thing and the only reason the government is involved in it at all is that the government gives a tax break to married couples. If we eliminated the system of giving tax breaks to special interest groups and revamped the tax system to where it was fair for everyone earning money then the marriage problem would go exactly where it belongs, back to the church. If the tax code were taken out of the equation then the church would have to decide if they wanted to marry gay couples or not. This would eliminate the problem of going to visit your partner in intensive care in the hospital if you are gay, get married in a church that marries gay couples and you've got that piece of paper…hospital couldn't refuse you.  The other problems would melt away just as easily.

Gay marriage is just another manufactured problem to keep groups fighting each other to keep our eye off of what the government is doing to our country. If you are of a faith that sanctions gay marriage (and your gay), no problem. If you're faith doesn't (and your gay), your choices become limited…petition the church or change faiths, but it's your deal not mine and sure as hell not the governments.
