Kevin Jennings. Safe Schools?

I'm going to weigh in on this. Kevin Jennings, an admittedly gay and a gay rights activist, appointed by the president to be the Safe School and Drug Free czar, says that if you haven't been trained in gay rights you are too big of a danger to our young children to be a teacher. He wrote the forward to the book Queering Elementary Education. Is he who we want to bring safety and a drug free program to our schools? Hell yes,
if that is what he brings to our schools, safety and drug free.

I don't care that he has devoted his life to the gay rights movement, I don't care that he has founded a an organization to promote the causes of Gay and Lesbian rights. This is our schools, we want to stop bullying in all its forms, we don't want our kids, gay or straight, afraid to go to school, but I say NO to teaching about gays and lesbians in our schools. We don't teach sexual orientation to our kids about straight people, nor should we.

Sexual orientation conversations should be available to our children as they start reaching puberty, when they are unsure of who they are, when they need someone to talk to. Most of us believe that we are different in some ways than everyone else and to that end when we are young we also believe that no one will understand (which by the way leads to teen suicides). This is the time they need councilors to talk to and to understand what they are going through, they do not need to taught that gay or lesbian is ok any more than they need to be taught that smoking is ok. If they are gay they need to be assured that there are other gay people in the world and they will meet someone some day to share their life with. It is not the school's place to connect them with gay organizations or straight organizations...it is the school's place to teach them History, Math, English (in this country), Science, help them stay active physically and keep them safe.

Sexually transmitted dieses can be taught in Science class, economics can be taught in Math class, how to open your mouth and talk to someone about your problems can be taught in English class and how our country and the world came to be in the state it’s in can be taught in History class. Keep all of this political agenda shit out of the schools. Current affairs can be taught in History but not with an agenda, that should be one of the highest litmus tests...can you teach current affairs without putting your own spin on it? Lawyer training should be taught here (how to argue for both the prosecution and the defense).

I'm not advocating puritan schools but we pay taxes to the public school system, not to produce a army of liberals or conservatives, gays or lesbians, but an educated population, educated in the things that matter to all of us and your sexual orientation does not matter to all of us, so stop promoting it and teaching it in our taxpayer funded schools.
